2014 में अमेरिका में लिमिटेड रिलीज़ के साथ आई व्हिपलैश, इस साल की सबसे चर्चित फिल्म होने वाली है, क्योंकि ये इस साल ही पूरी तरह और सब जगह रिलीज़ हुई है। इस फिल्म की पिछले साल सीमित रिलीज़ हुई थी, लेकिन समीक्षकों ने इसे 4 से 4.5 तक रेटिंग दी थी, जबकि इसकी IMDB पर रेटिंग, 10 में से 8.6 और Rotten Tomatoes पर 95 फीसदी है। व्हिपलैश एक संगीत के छात्र एंड्र्यू नीमेन और उसके गुरु टेरेंस फ्लेचर की कहानी है, एंड्र्यू ड्रमर बनना चाहता है और उसका गुरु बेहद गुस्सैल है। फिल्म 5 ऑस्कर/अकादमी अवॉर्ड्स के लिए नामांकित हुई है। कहानी कहां ले जाती है इसके लिए फिल्म देखिएगा, लेकिन फिल्म देख कर लौटे हमारे साथी अनंत चौधरी ने जो एक त्वरित टिप्पणी की है...वो आप के सामने है...

Blacked out screen and you start hearing the slow invigorating drum roll, setting your expectations in the opening scene. Camera chases the beats through a long dark-so American institution alley panning on Miles Teller as Andre Neiman. He is meek, antisocial, ambitious, brimming with talent and with no musical legacy. This unpolished glob of an artist is recognized by the most prestigious professor at institution Terence Fletcher. This is where the dream and the nightmare entwine for Neiman. Fletcher is beyond obsessed with perfection, a true believer in the theory of negative motivation in his journey to push the envelope for his pupil,

Well, for a musical genre drama the movie is surprisingly fast paced. Blood rolling on the drum sets, sweaty drumsticks, about to burst veins, hurling chairs and objects, homophobic curses, stolen music notes are just a few things to earn your place in the band.
Bald and clad in black JJ Simmons as Fletcher is leaving no stones unturned and even hurling the stones at Neiman in pursuit of that perfect rhythm. The character is dangling on the very fine line of obsession and sadism giving the entire story line a heightened sense of tension.
It’s a love triangle between an art form and two of its followers meandering through the forlorn by alleys of complex characters, obsessed artists, sadist outbursts and seldom exalted musicians.
